About Us

Mixed Pet Veterinary Hospitals are three local, Charlotte hospitals founded and privately owned by Dr. Ken Schoolmeester with over thirty-four years of veterinary experience in North Carolina. Mixed Pet Veterinary Hospitals with locations at Ballantyne, South End and Stonecrest strive to combine upbeat and often humorous support staff with innovative, friendly veterinarians to create a fun, inviting, and modern atmosphere for your pet’s healthcare.

Our Start
After owning his own practice for twenty-three years in the Greensboro area, Dr. Schoolmeester moved to South Charlotte ten years ago and opened Stonecrest Veterinary Clinic. Seven years later, he expanded toward the urban and growing Uptown area and started South End Veterinary Clinic servicing the Dilworth, Meyers Park and Southend areas. As his clients in South Charlotte continued to expand yet his space at Stonecrest could not, he opened Ballantyne Veterinary Hospital for the pets in Marvin, Weddington, Pineville and Indian Land two years ago.

New Name
Since there wasn’t clear recognition among the three locations as being part of the same organization, we embarked on a name that would give the hospitals a cohesive identification. After a lot of thought and many submissions, we agreed on Mixed Pet Veterinary Hospitals as it best represents our diverse group of mixed, designer and purebred patients.

Value
We match 1-800-PetMeds pricing for flea, tick & heartworm medications at each of our locations as well as through our online store (once an active client).

Often, there are additional discounts or rebates from manufacturers that are only offered through a veterinary office; we will even process them for you.

Team Diagnostics
We frequently collaborate with all of the veterinarians on unique cases and surgeries to provide the most comprehensive and expert care across the locations.

Surgery
We offer the most advanced surgical techniques and technology including the exclusive use of lasers (laser surgery promotes faster recovery with significant pain reduction), in an environment where we strictly limit the number of surgical patients each day to ensure the highest quality of care per patient.

If you have received another estimate from a local NC veterinary clinic, we offer apples-to-apples comparisons and discuss with you the similarities and explain the differences as well as work with you and your budget to ensure your pet receives the best possible surgical care.

Online Access
Once an active client, click on the appropriate hospital banner (below) to access your pet’s private, secure medical history in your own portal with many helpful features:
- Print proof of vaccinations
- Order prescription refills
- Request appointments
- Create, save and print instructions for pet sitters or boarding facilities
- Request email reminders to prompt administration of prescriptions (like monthly heartworm medication)
- Comprehensive online store with free delivery on orders over $40.00 for products and prescriptions (we offer many additional brands and products that we don't carry at our hospital locations)

BARKING Dr. Nicholas Dodman Behavioral Disorders BARKING PROBLEMS Dogs bark for a variety of reasons, some good, some not so good. Sometimes barking is a welcoming signal, other times not. Sometimes dogs bark briefly, and other times they just won't quit. And therein lies a problem. By nature, some breeds tend to bark more than others. Beagles and Shetland sheepdogs, for instance, tend to be very vocal. Greyhounds and basenjis, by contrast, rarely bark.
